The body’s natural healing process involves three components: stem cells, growth factors and tissue. The stem cells are the raw material that is needed to generate new tissue, possibly to repair an injury. The growth factors are the agents that help generate more stem cells, speeding up the healing process. Your own tissue at the targeted site is the scaffold to which the stem cells attach. All three are in your body. The key is to extract them with minimal invasion and combine them to target the area of interest to you.
Growth Factors and PRP
Your blood contains red blood cells, white blood cells and platelet cells, all suspended in a liquid called plasma. Platelets contain growth factors that can stimulate the growth of other cells. This applies to stem cells therefore growth factors are the agents that help generate more stem cells, speeding up the healing process. So the more platelets, the more growth factors, and the faster the healing process. At NuStem, we draw your own blood and isolate from it a high concentration of platelets called Platelet-Rich Plasma or PRP.
Stem Cells
Stem Cells are “blank” cells. That is, they can develop and grow into any type of cell or tissue in the body. There are numerous sources of stem cells in your body, including:
- Blood: obtained through a simple blood draw, as with the PRP above
- Bone marrow: harvested through simple aspiration, typically from your hip area to obtain Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate or BMAC
- Fat tissue: obtained through a mini-liposuction and called Adipose-derived Stem Cells or ASC).
- Amniotic fluid: provided by a third-party tissue bank, it contains large numbers of growth factors to activate your own stem cells
- Umbilical cord blood: provided by a third-party tissue bank, it contains very large numbers of stem cells, our most potent formula
At NuStem, we will focus on the technique best suited to your needs.
Putting It All Together
For each cellular treatment - regardless of the source of cells - the solution harvested is then re-injected where you need it most. Cellular therapy thus harnesses the power of these blank slate cells to encourage the body to heal itself. By using stem cells in an area of the body that requires healing, they will go to work on that area, greatly enhancing the process of regeneration. While this might sound like something out of science fiction, it is not new at all. In fact, an increasing number of animal and human trials support the use of stem cells in the treatment of numerous conditions. Cellular therapy provides a natural way to rebuild lost or damaged tissue. It uses the healing process that occurs naturally in the body, but does so with targeted intensity and improved recovery. In doing so, it has the potential to reverse the effects of the aging process locally.
When many people hear the words “stem cells,” they assume it is in reference to embryonic cells or those taken from other humans, embryos, and animals. We do not seek outside sources of cells. Nor do we attempt to grow them in a laboratory. Rather, we prefer to use cells from your own body in our treatments. Even then, we are not always extracting and injecting cells into your body – in some cases, it is sufficient to inject Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) which triggers stem cells already present in that area to grow and multiply.
There is no controversy here. It is legal in the US. We merely kick-start your body into doing what it does best: heal itself.

Regenerative cellular therapies such as the use of stem cells are widely studied as adjunctive therapies for many conditions, including acute injuries in the skeletal-muscular system as well as in inner organs such as the heart or the brain. Cellular therapy does not replace standard therapies as recommended by your doctor, but may serve as an addition to existing or recommended therapies. Currently, stem cell therapy is not FDA-approved and is considered experimental. However, numerous published studies worldwide have shown significant benefits. Stem cell therapy might represent one of the most potent future medical therapies.
NuStem is offering patient-funded research to provide individual patients with regenerative cellular therapy. NuStem is not involved in the use or manufacture of any investigational drugs. NuStem uses scientific protocols in a systematic manner with scheduled follow up appointments and objective measures for scientific purposes. NuStem is not offering cell therapy as a cure for any condition, disease or injury. Any decision to participate in our patient-funded experimental protocols is completely voluntary.
